Puerto Galera: 2/3 White Sand, 1/3 Gay
Puerto Galera
This year's trip would be my 4th time in Puerto Galera in 3 years,
3 times during Holy Week. On my first time, my band was invited to
perform for a beach event at the White Beach Resort. I did not have
any time to explore the beach or do anything else aside from the gig
itself. I then went home and broadcasted my newly discovered sanctuary
to my friends and in less than a month's time I was back and I had
all the time to explore the beach. I'm glad I did.
To go to Puerto Galera, you need to go to the Batangas Pier first.
You can ride a bus or bring a car, which you can park at the Pier
during your stay as long as you pay the parking rate which is charged
by the day. The parking is secured and there is no need to worry about
your prized Japanese sedan because chances are, you'd be parked next
to a Ford Expedition or the like. In our case, we take the bus. A
bus ride from Alabang to the Pier costs 100 bucks. Once you've reached
the Pier, you need to book a boat ride going to Puerto Galera which
usually costs less than 200 pesos. By "boat" I mean one
of those medium-sized "bankas" that have these big bamboo
anti-flipping-over devices at both sides.
The boats have a capacity of 50-80 persons which they can crowd to
as much as a hundred especially during the peak days. A good idea
is to arrive at the Pier at dawn, anytime between 3 a.m. to 5 a.m.
and you are assured to get a good early morning boat ride schedule.
The boat ride usually takes 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours depending on
how crowded your boat is and what part of Puerto you've chosen to
stay. White Beach Resort would probably give your money the most worth.
This is where the events are usually held. Did I forget to mention
that you are also already in Oriental Mindoro? Don't get excited yet
because you still don't have a place to stay.
We usually go there without any sort of prior booking to any hotel
or cottage. Cottages usually cost anywhere from less than a thousand
per night to as much as 3,500 depending on the ammenities and the
location. I'd say get the cheapest cottage you can get so you'd be
forced to stay away from it and spend more time at the beach. Stay
away from the more comfortable aircon-type cottages. You need to create
an atmosphere that has the least resemblance to what you are used
to at home. Back-up plan: bring a tent and camp up at the designated
tent areas.
Explore the beach. Make sure that you go to the other parts of the
island. Book a mini-boat that can take you to the popular destinations
within the island. Go snorkeling, diving, hiking, etc. It's all there.
Come night time, go to an event. If there are no events, go to a bar,
bring your own gin-goy, gin-pom, gin-acolait or whatever you call
your own brand of gin-juice and drink by the beach. Go out there,
meet gay people.
Puerto Gay-lera
I have nothing against Gays.
Puerto Galera holds the record for the most number of Gay people I
have ever seen in one place for my entire life. This is during Holy
Week and I have 3 consecutive years' worth of proof. It is almost
as if I feel out of place for being straight. Am I missing out on
anything here? Please drop me a line if you know the reason to this
phenomenon. I am just curious. Again, I am just curious... And they
do really flaunt it by the way which leads me to warn you - let go
of your conservative beliefs - I'm talking about good o'l Quality
Same-Sex-Action out in the open here.
Friendly Reminders:
1. Do not be excited to flaunt your new tatoo for you need to be covered
with tattoos in order to be noticed.
2. If you have a mediumly-buffed bod, do not expect to be noticed,
your bod needs to be well-done. Chances are, you'd be noticed more
if you have a funny looking bod just like mine.
3. Do not bring your year's worth of savings. Have I told you that
up to this point we've only spent less than 1/4's worth of a typical
Boracay trip?
4. Bring tons of sunblock if you have no plans of imitating Claudine
Baretto's Marina look.
5. I can never forget this girl who had the letters S-E-X henna tatooed
on her back. Bottomline, bring protection.
6. Leave the Drugs behind... =)
