COMPUTER GEEK

I'm pretty sure that you've seen those high definition TVs that most appliance stores are selling right now. This TVs is a must have item of every DVD or videogame aficionado out there. This breed of TVs gives your DVD movies or high-end videogames a different kind of boost especially on the realism side. Imagine seeing the tire marks that the cars in the Fast and the Furious movie leaves every time it skids on the road, or seeing the bullets fly as Sam Fisher, the protagonist of the XBOX game Splinter Cell, every time he pulls the trigger to snipe an enemy out of the game. Sounds awesome, right? Of course it is! The only problem is that these TVs would normally cost a hefty 80k to 120k and personally I wouldn't spend that much just to see the tiniest of details in my DVD movies or XBOX games. So I guess I'll just content myself with the normal and eye straining resolution that my old but reliable 20 inch TV gives, NOT!

Last week while doing my weekly rounds for the newest DVD movies and XBOX games I happened to saw in one of the computer shops there a device called Viewsonic Nextvision N6. Knowing that Viewsonic is a major monitor manufacturer in the states I immediately dismissed the product to be nothing but an expensive monitor add on device that I will absolutely find no use of. Good thing that my curiosity got the best of me at that moment so I decided to enter the shop that has it on display and check it the Nextvision out. I went into the store and asked the friendly Chinese owner of the shop if I can check the N6 out. He immediately took it out of the display case and after that he started to give me a run down of the features of the N6. Here's an excerpt of the conversation:

Me: Para saan to boss?
Owner: Ah, ito kinakabit mo sa monitor para pwede gamitin pang-nood ng DVD (spoken in full Chinese tone)
Me: Talaga?
Owner: Oo! Tapos kung may PS2 ka puwede din kabit ditto yun.
Me: XBOX ang meron ako eh. Puwede rin ba yun?
Owner: Puwedeng puwede. Mas maganda nga yun kasi HD compatible talaga yun.
Me: Hmmm…
Owner: High Definition compatible to.
Me: Di ibig sabihin kaya nyang idisplay yung DVD ko in 1080i mode?
Owner: Oo naman! Di mo na kailangan yung mga malalaki na TV.
Me: Talaga? Astig! Magkano?
Owner: 8 thousand
Me: Mahal naman!
Owner: Sige tawaran mo

And the rest is history…

I bought the unit then when I got home I immediately hooked it up to my monitor that is just 15 inches. Since the N6 is an external video processor unlike the video cards with TV I/O, setting it up was easy as 1. 2. 3. Just plug in the VGA plug that is from the monitor to the back of the N6, then plug in the component cables from your DVD player or in my case my XBOX to the ports located at the back of the N6 and you're all set. Oh and by the way your computer is not included in the setup at all. It's just your monitor, the N6 and your DVD that's involved. After that turn on both units, tweak the settings then sit back and enjoy full high definition visual goodness! This product definitely brings the goodness of high definition viewing to the masses. Though my 15 inches monitor is nothing compared to those 48 inches HD TVs, I couldn't care less. I still get the same resolution that those TVs give only smaller in size but at least I'm happy and so is my wallet.
