Worth the Trouble

A pimple is that annoying little red spot that came from nowhere by which when touched sends waves to the membrane thus giving one that tingling sensation. The purpose of having such an unwanted phenomenon on the face is unknown (can somebody tell me why it shows up at the most inopportune moment?), but I can come up with a lot of facts/theories as to how it comes about on a person's skin. First, the skin produces sebum, but the excess of it clogs dirt resulting to a big red zit. Second is stress that makes your face cringe with frustration at having encountered a problem in your workstation which forces you to work overtime until you get it done, after which your boss tells you that he doesn't need the report until next week. Third is that pimples are contagious. To prove my point, let me tell you about my sister and her occasional encounter with people who have zits. She tends to notice the zits on the person's face, even if the person just happens to pass by her. Then BAM! She already has one on that same spot as the person she just saw yesterday. No scientific explanation whatsoever, I know, but it does happen to her all the time. And last, that thing called LOVE. Remember that song that goes something like "taghiyawat sa ilong, pati na sa pisngi. Sa kakaisip sa yo, taghiyawat dumadami…"? True, pimple is almost always associated with someone who is assumed to be in love. But no matter how unnerving these zits get to you, you probably wouldn't even care because of that thing called love. If it did, the singer wouldn't be proud to mention how many she gets each time she fell in love.

Love is the most overused and most misunderstood word in the vocabulary. It's neither quantifiable nor tangible. All I know is, it makes people do crazy things. With my own experiences plus with the people I converse with everyday, I have come to my own understanding of the word.

Old habits die hard but willingly. Even picking one's nose in public can be remedied and severely removed from one's habits with this word. Just like what Jack Nicholson's character said in the movie As Good As It Gets, "you make me wanna be a better man" is true in every aspect. You can't possibly change the person for your sake and for your satisfaction. But if the person is willing to change and become a better person for you, well, that my friend is out of love.

Flaws are unflawed. Think of it this way. You buy a shirt that is 100% cotton. You wear it the next day, then the following weeks, then the following months. You've probably washed it several times already and you make it a point to wash it right after you wore it. The more you wash it, the more the color fades. Your mother would probably bug you into throwing the shirt away because it's already making you look like some homeless guy, but you refuse to listen. What your mother doesn't understand is that it's the most comfortable shirt you got, even if it has holes in it. Just like in a relationship. Some people break up, then make up, then break up again, then make up once more, like a wild roller coaster ride. I wouldn't understand why people still want go back to those who have hurt them, even if I tried to talk some sense out of them. It may be love, or just plain stupid to some. But who knows, maybe it is love, and I hope it is. At least they're way past each other's flaws.

The Reason. A good example is the one sung by Hoobastank, entitled The Reason. Let me quote the chorus: "I found the reason for me to change who I used to be, a reason to start over new, and the reason is you." Love indeed is enough reason to survive this world. The world may come crashing down hard, but here you are surviving just so you can have that chance to love. Suddenly you see the world in a different angle and you notice things like it's the first time you laid eyes on them.

With love, you're willing to do anything, even wait for him for hours outside the classroom. Some people may not understand it, but who cares! You're the one who will look stupid anyway. And it's all worth it.
