- 1 2 Blame

May 10, 2004. Responsible citizens of the Philippines would have casted their votes this day to replace and improve the nation's leaders. I, on the other hand, did not. Consider me irresponsible and apathetic to our nation's future, but I have a thing or two to say to you.

Little do I wish to be hated, I only want to share my personal thoughts on the "Halalan and Stuff" issue, no more than my want to convert people or lead people to believe my twisted philosophy.

May 20, 2004. On this day that I choose to write, 10 days has already passed and we still do not have a new President. However, we do have an idea that or newly elected official may be of of two things - a re-elect or an action star. Everyday that I open the TV to stay current and up to date with the elections, I always - and I mean always, hear of new evidences of "dayaan", protests or other hate-related-blame-it-on-someone blabber bullshit. The New Government has not even started yet and we are already way ahead of finding someone or something to blame for our misery.

There will never be a Government, let alone a President who can make our ends meet. Time for an irony: No 1 can improve the quality of our life but 1 - YOU. We are our own heroes. It's amazing that we know how hard it is to bring food to the table, pay for Juan's tuition, pay the bills-bills-bills and pay for ___ <- place any other basic necessity here, and we expect one human being to to do the same for 70 million people. This simple irony alone leads me to believe that those who are seated on the high-chairs are indeed human. More human than we are because they can provide for their own families and a couple more.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe in the elections and the current Political system. I just still don't consider myself deserving of placing an official in power. I also did not vote because I did not want to see myself in an episode of 24 Oras or TV Patrol protesting over some who-knows-what issue that the Government failed to resolve. I also do not want to see myself as an underpaid extra on the now ever-so-popular Edsa Series. Now on it's 4th Season? I am like this, and I will be what I will be because I did what I did. If I will become successful in life, then I will know that I did what I had to do. If I become unsuccessful then it would simply mean that I failed to adjust and overcome certain standards that were required in my craft. I am who I am because of what I am and because of what I did. Redundant indeed.

But not as redundant as what we see on TV or read on the papers. Would you like to have more money so that you can further improve the quality of life that you currently have? Work hard for it. Would you like to lessen the polution and breathe cleaner air? Throw that cigarette away or have your favorite FX a.k.a "Smoke Machine" tuned by your local talyer. Would you like to experience driving on clearer roads? Obey the God-damned traffic light! Let ye who is innocent cast the first stone.

I feel so insulted when someone labels our country Third World. Have you been around the country lately? Do you realize how lucky we are to have been blessed with such abundant natural resources? How I would love to tell theese people from the First World - "My country is not Third World, I am."

Time to go. I will now devote my life to further improve myself and be successful. I would not want my country to be ashamed of me. If all goes well, someday I might consider myself deserving to chose who I would want to govern me. And I would know that even if my bet would not win, there can be no one who can make me, my family and my "kababayans" miserable.

I on my own is my contribution to the Philippines. And no matter how small, the whole would still be incomplete without me. This my friend, is why we have no one to blame. We only have ourselves.
